Did St. Francis preach to the birds? Whatever for? If he really liked birds he would have done better to preach to the cats. ~  Rebecca West.
There's nothing wrong with my cat; he's just showing off!
About this time of year we get *puffballs on sticks" ~ curlew chicks.  This one is half grown.  They make the most scarifying racket ever but I like curlews.  They form family groups & are generally good parents.  I've had them take on the car to keep the chick safe though pretending to be a dead stick is more their usual thing.
They make pretty good dead sticks.

I am wondering if there is such a thing as a live stick? Before it falls it is a branch or twig. When it dies its a stick.....fascinating!
Love the bird life.

Your cats are so cute! The bird is also interesting. For some reason, it reminded me of myotonic goats (fainting goats).

oh wow Ganeida, I didn't know that! They pretend to be dead! Like me on a Monday morning! haha!

I really dislike (that is strongly dislike) the noise they make! The aboriginals have a legend tale that when you hear one crying out, it means someone has died or something silly like that lol. But seriously, it is eerie and they only do it at night really late.

It must be a day for birds... I have posted about that little budgie! And I took some nice little photos of a pair of swallows today, that were getting some shelter from the rain, on our back deck railings. Birds are very nice little creatures...

Kirby, there is NO WAY! Is that a tree just off the verandah near the fire place? I think he is completely insane and delusional...

Ruby: a sapling is sometimes refered to as a stick ~ & generally it's live. ☺

Seeking: The cat is a nutter, the birds are fascinating ~ if noisy.

Amanda: I haven't got to your budgie story yet. :( We have quite a lot & they call day & night but night time they certainly sound eerie.

Lobstar: Yep, the tree on the corner. Straight up it like a rocket ~ & then he pranced round on the outer limbs for ages. Dad had a connipition! Delusional cat. ☺

The curlews are fascinating. Thanks for showing us.

Now the cat: was Kirby watching the birds below in that way that Rebecca West was referring to, perhaps?

Gerry: You are welcome. ☺ We are so used to them I forget they have novelty value for others.

Jeanne: Actually, the biggest worry is he'll forget how high up he is & take a flying leap after something he sees! And no, at the time he was just beside himself that two, yes TWO! of his people were outside with him & was showing off outrageously!

We met a crow once pretending to be dead. We were worried about it, and stood round in a ring wondering if it was dead or sick and if so what could we do. After about ten miniutes of this it got up looking rather embarrrassed and walked away.

Ember: Crows are smart ~ curlews...well, not so much. As my brother, who considers himself a wit, says, " There's a reason for the term *bird~brain*".
