OK... I clicked on this thinking: What on earth is she posting about pumpkins in spring?? Duh.. spring is fall, up is down, Friday is Saturday. When will I ever learn? *shakes head in embarrassment*
Sandra: so what sort of pumpkins do you get? We get everything from the BIG QLD blues to butternuts & Japs. These are jap hybrids grown randomly from whatever sprouted in the compost.
Bonnie: I hate to disillusion you even more but...we grow pumpkins all year round here! lol
Thanks Jillian. ☺
Diane: obviously not a numbers gal! lol We get pumpkins all year round anyhow.
Seeking: these look like Japs but they will be a hybrid of whatever germinated in the compost. Japs are green with orange yellow streaks on the rind & are a deep rich orange inside. They don't require much cooking & are usually sweet & sort of nutty in flavour. Ditz doesn't care. She just doesn't like pumpkin.
Yum. Pumpkin is on our kitchen garden list. Are they easy to grow...if you have the space? Have you ever tried growing them directly in the compost bins and letting them ramble? I like that idea!

Methinks that last word should actually be 'Yuk'.
Your pumpkins just look unripe to me! What do you do with green pumpkins??
Kimba: Ditz would agree with you.
mrs C: nope. they're lovely & sweet. Jap hybrids.
So unlike the pumpkins I am familiar with. Enjoy them!
Being an American transplant in NZ, I am still getting used to April being Fall. But--yay--it's pumpkin pie season!!
Hi Ganeida,
They look absolutely delicious! YUM!
Have a wonderful and blessed week,
Love, Jillian ♥

I did the exact same thing as the other northern hemisphere visitors did. DUH! (Where is that smiley that hits himself in the head when you need him!)
Those pumpkins look so interesting. Do you know the name for them?

I've never seen a pumpkin that looked like that! The only pumpkins that I'm familiar with are the big orange ones...
I do love pumpkin pie though! :-)
What I know as a pumpkin is shaped like the one pictured but orange. I think what you call pumpkin we call squash.
Moly:No big orange ones here.
Sandra: squash are little; no bigger than a small handspan. Watery. Pretty tasteless. Usually either light green or pale yellow in colour.Like
Nope
haven't got the HTML thingy worked out. Sorrow. Will Post separately because our pumkin & your squash have nothing at all in common.
