Now I'm her mum, so while I love to hear what she's been doing I also listen with the ears of my heart & for what the Spirit confirms in my heart. So what did I hear?
Lots & lots of good things! Firstly, she is starting to think in Spanish. The language buffs amongst you will know how huge this is. It is a hurdle that marks the transition into being competant in another language & hastens progress! So yay, God!
Then between sickness & change Liddy is the team leader into the boy's orphanage! Interesting as Lid, like her mummy, is not huge on respnsibility but she does very well with it because she likes being able to organize things her way [she does have good organizational skills! ☺] & she delegates well so everyone feels part of the team effort. Leadership is one of the things I, personally, felt Liddy was called too but it is interesting to see how quickly God has opened up a position of responsibility for her!
Lid has never been my crafty girl but this is a skill she has been developing as she works with the kids. I do get a giggle out of imagining my Lid, so not crafty, trying to explain what she wants done in mangled Spanish!
Now God is good always ~ but some days it is more evident to our human eyes than others. Listening to Liddy I was just overwhemed at how He is taking care of her just now. Her Spanish is still not good but she testified that she has the support of the home's supervisor as well as the children. They all slowed down for her & chose words that she would know when they spoke with her. For the first time she was understanding everything that was said to her & the supervisor is keen to have her stay at the orphanage again as the children were more settled when she was with them last time. This is so wonderful & such a confirmation. It is also a firm foundation for her next 18 months when she will be operating properly in the ministry rather than just as a trainee.
Thank you, all those of you who pray for Liddy. We are so grateful for the faithfulness of the family of God!

What a lovely, lovely post. You must be so proud of your girl and all that she is accomplishing and achieving. The troubles she had in getting to where she is now must feel so worthwhile. I must admit that at times I thought God might have different plans for Liddy, but I am so glad that she felt differently and kept persevering. Thanks for sharing.
Jeanne: you were not the only one ☺ but we had both heard very clearly from God so were confident. It was only the timing we weren't 100% sure of. It is so nice though to be justified & see God's purposes working out as they should!
That picture of Liddy is just lovely and now she is in leadership surrounded by children as you saw, but with more to come, I am sure.
I do so get that thinking in another language and even though I studied Spanish, it actually happened in the last year...and with Koine Greek, of all things. One day, I just got it. I guess it is all in the repetition.
She will do very well will every challenge she is given by the Lord.

I love that picture of Liddy! She's a beautiful girl and you must be so proud of her, though I'll say it must be pretty tough....can't imagine what I'd do if it was my Rebekah in her shoes in another country so far away from home:(
Rosemary: There are moments ~ at both ends, but on the whole it evens out over time. It is exciting to share the adventure & I just keep reminding myself how blessed we are with Skype, FB & emails which make it so easy to keep in touch these days. It must have been so hard in the old days when it took weeks or months for letters to arrive!
As others have said - you must be so proud of her. I have found that my children really surprise me as they mature, things that they never did, they can now do and all the new things they learn. They are full of surprises and God does work in mysterious ways.
I'm sure you look forward to talking to your far away daughter. So much change over the past year. She will be conversant in Spanish before she knows it. There is nothing like immersion for learning a language.

Great to read all of this. When I attempted to learn Italian that was the key thing which eluded me, well, one of, I just couldn't think Italian! Same in high school French. Man, I have enough trouble with English at times!`
